The idea for the “Green Team” came from a 2017 Fall semester Composition and Critical Thinking course I taught. The students were in groups researching problems to tackle for an upcoming paper. One of the solutions they came up with was for a Green Team school club where students could connect with the local community and make it greener and better.
They were all excited and I thought it was an interesting idea. The students wanted me to start the club but a student club has to be started by students. Sadly, no one was available to start it.
I told the students I would start researching the idea and present it to my future classes. After many years of researching and collaborating with hundreds of students, we are ready to begin.
The IE Green Team is our attempt at prototyping a green team in every city and school. The idea grew bigger until it included everyone and a slogan to #thinkgreen.
This is our work in progress Green Team; meant to prototype, educate, document, and hopefully inspire people to create and join local green teams in their communities.
The IE Green Team’s mission is to educate, model, and open source a more sustainable and better future for everybody.
